The Marvel Cinematic Universe began in 2008.
Since then, it has gathered millions of fans and developed into a multi-million dollar enterprise that includes TV series that supplement the films, action figures and more.
Deadpool and Wolverine
The latest Marvel film is Deadpool and Wolverine.
That was released just days ago on the 26th July and there are at least four films planned for release next year. These include _Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four: First Steps _and _Blade. _
Key Question for Fans
In the 2019 film _Avengers: Endgame_, the beloved character Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Junior, dies.
Iron Man was the first Marvel character to have his own film and he kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008. Whether or not he would return has been a key question for fans and they have had to wait a long time for an answer.
Downey Jr Wanted to Return
Robert Downey Junior has added fuel to the fire this year by saying he would like to return to Marvel.
“Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” Downey said. “That role chose me.”
Downey Jr Returns
Now it seems that Robert Downey Jr will indeed return to Marvel, but not as Iron Man…
In a dramatic reveal at the San Diego Comic Con on Saturday 25th July, Downey Jr made an appearance, not as Iron Man but as Victor Von Doom, an evil doctor.
Fans Shocked and Ecstatic
The shocked fans at Comic Con chanted his name as Downey Jr removed his mask to show them who he was.
Doctor Doom is one of the most iconic characters in the Marvel universe and there has been much anticipation from fans about when he would appear on screen. But not everyone was delighted.
Some Fans Angered
Some fans have been angered and puzzled by the reveal.
Some called the decision a casting gimmick, while others suggested that the Marvel version of the X Men might be played by the Avengers.
Release Date a Way Off
Marvel fans will have to wait a while before they see Downey Jr’s version of Doctor Doom.
The next Avengers film, _Avengers: Doomsday_ isn’t due for release until 2026 and is currently in development.
More Films Planned
Marvel isn’t stopping there, however.
There is another Avengers film due to be released in 2027 called _Avengers: Secret Wars. _
Still Churning
The film factory which is Marvel has no plans to stop churning soon.
There are at least four more films planned for the future with no confirmed release date yet, although they will come after 2027 as they are not even in development yet. They include an X Men film and a sequel to _Spiderman: No Way Home_.
