Shannen Doherty is best known for her roles in the popular series _Charmed _and _Beverley Hills 90210._
She was just nineteen years old when she made her first appearance in _Beverley Hills 90210_, back in 1990.
Early Career
She was even younger when she first started acting.
She played Jenny Wilder in _Little House on the Prairie _from 1982 at the tender age of eleven.
Successful Child Actress
This was accompanied by several other acting roles as a child, including as Maggie Malene in _Girls Just Want to Have Fun_ and as Kris Witherspoon in _Our House_.
In 1984 she was nominated for the Best Young Actress Guest in a Series award at the Youth in Film Awards and later she was nominated for a Young Artist Award.
Fans Forever
It is her role in _Charmed_ as magical sister Prue Halliwell for which she will be most remembered.
The show is a classic of the fantasy magic genre and still has a large following, more than twenty years after it finished filming. It broke new ground and tropes from the series, such as the cost of a magical calling, are now staples of the genre.
Long Battle with Cancer
Shannen Doherty had been battling cancer for a long time.
She was first diagnosed with the disease in 2015. She had a reprieve from 2017 – 2019, but then the cancer returned and in 2023, Doherty revealed that it had spread to her brain and was terminal.
Continued to Work
She continued to work and appear publicly until close to the end of her life.
In 2021, she appeared in the film _Fortress_ which also starred Jesse Metcalfe and Bruce Willis.
Outspoken
Doherty was outspoken about her battle with cancer.
As late as 2023, she was sharing videos on her instagram of receiving treatment for her brain cancer. She was not ready to die and said in a 2023 interview: “I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating.”

Shannen Doherty lost her battle with cancer on 13th July 2024.
Just days after she had posted on Instagram saying that she “felt hopeful” for the first time in a long time. Her family have asked for privacy at this time.
Loss to Her Fans
To Shannen Doherty’s many fans, this is a heavy loss.
She was a beautiful woman with a fighting spirit and a glow that came from within. She inspired many with her spirited battle against the disease that claimed her.
