Sabrina Carpenter has revealed a new video from her album “Short and Sweet” which was released on Friday 23rd August.
It is her sixth album and “Taste” is the opening track. Carpenter wrote the song in collaboration with Julia Michaels and Amy Allen. It is rumoured to be about Shawn Mendes who Carpenter dated.
Complex Relationship
The song is about a boyfriend who gets back together with his ex.
In the song Carpenter sings “I heard you’re back together and if that’s true / You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you.”
Follow Up
It is hoped that this song and the album it comes from can follow on from the success of Carpenter’s two singles “Espresso” and “Please Please Please”
These two songs made Carpenter the first female artist to hold both the number 1 and number 2 spots on the charts for three consecutive weeks this summer. Now she wants to repeat that success.
Raunchy Gory Video
The video for “Taste” includes both sex and violence and two other celebrities.
The boyfriend in the video is played by Rohan Campbell of “The Hardy Boys” ad “Halloween Ends”.
The One and Only…
However, the world is going mad because the other celebrity in the video is Jenna Ortega.
The video sees her and Carpenter repeatedly try to kill one another.
Cheerful Gore
They do so cheerfully and with mutliple recoveries each. Given Ortega’s roles in Wednesday and Beetlejuice, her involvement is not surprising.
Some of their methods involve a chainsaw, fenceposts, knives, electric shocks and voodoo dolls.
Ortega’s Raunchy Side
What may be surprising to fans, however, is Ortega’s raunchy side.
Towards the end of the video Ortega is seen kissing Carpenter. This happens when she is kissing her boyfriend but he turns into Carpenter. The two women share a passionate moment.
Realisation
But then Ortega realises she is kissing Carpenter and pulls out a chainsaw.
She kills Carpenter with the chainsaw and then knocks her into the swimming pool only to find that it isn’t Carpenter she has killed at all…
Twist at the End
The video has a story twist at the end.
As once the boyfriend is removed from the triangle, the two women find they aren’t such enemies afterall…
Inspired by a Classic
The video was inspired by the classic film “Death Becomes Her”.
This was released in 1992 and starred Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn. The “Taste” music video was directed by Dave Myers.
