After months of trailers, images and information released about ‘Thunderbolts‘, it’s clear to see that this Marvel film leans into a more rag tag cast of heroes – or perhaps better defined as anti-heroes for some. This year we’ve had the pleasure of seeing some actors (and characters) from past Marvel films in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine‘. In 2025, it looks like in Marvel’s next phase we can expect yet another new character to join the MCU fray – Bob.
Who is Bob in Thunderbolts?
Who is Bob? He’s a guy wearing only hospital scrubs on a team filled with trained assassins, rejects from a perfect soldier program, and scientific accidents turned super criminals, all decked out in cutting-edge tech. Given his lack of visible protection and equipment, it’s safe to say he’s probably one of the most lethal of the bunch.
A quick glimpse of an iconic belt buckle in the trailer (along with confirmation from Deadline back in July) reveals his identity: Bob, portrayed by Lewis Pullman (Outer Range, Top Gun: Maverick), is the MCU’s take on one of Marvel’s most powerful—and unpredictable—superheroes.
This gives us all the info we need – who wears a belt with a big ‘S’ and goes by the name ‘Bob’ in Marvel Comics – all signs point to Sentry.
Who is Sentry?
Sentry, created by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee, first popped up in The Sentry #1 back in 2000. His real name is Robert Reynolds, and he gains his powers after taking a serum that turned him into a “golden god,” giving him common hero abilities like super strength and flight. But his story isn’t just about being powerful; he also struggles with mental health issues and has this dark side called the Void.
That duality of light and darkness makes Sentry a perfect fit for the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. The team is all about misfits and morally gray characters, and Sentry’s mix of immense power and personal struggles totally aligns with that vibe. He’s the kind of wild card who can shake things up, and his journey of battling his own demons fits right in with the themes of redemption and the challenges these characters face. It’ll be interesting to see how he interacts with the rest of the crew.
We’ll have the chance to see Sentry and the rest of the Thunderbolts in action on May 25th, 2025. Check out the trailer below!
